Question for moms...

When I went to the doctor on Wednesday he said I had only dilated another 1/2 cm from last week.  Which I guess is still better than nothing!  So at 37 weeks I am 1 1/2 cm dilated and 50% effaced.  So this baby will probably not be here before Christmas.  I go back next Wednesday and he is going to do an ultrasound to see how big she is and what position she is in.  Based off that info and whether or not I have dilated further we will discuss what to do next.  I'm hoping I will have dilated enough to talk him into stripping my membranes or something b/c I would like to try to kick start my labor on my own before even considering an induction.  Anyone ever have their membranes stripped?  What is it like?  Would you do it again?  How many weeks were you and did it start your labor?

Thanks!

  1. I'm a long time blog-lurker. :) I had mine stripped at my 39 week appointment with my daughter. My appointment was at 8:30 and I went into labor that night around 9, so it definitely worked for me. The actual process is a little more painful than being checked, but it's super quick (like less than 30 seconds). If your doctor will do it, go for it (I would do it again in a heartbeat). Good luck and if you have any other specific questions I'm happy to answer them for you!

  2. Had mine striped at 39 weeks with Will. I as due to be induced the next day, it did put me into labor that night and we just waited til my induction time to go to the hospital. I would do it again if I had the opportunity, was not more painful to me than the painful exams and takes 2 seconds.... I did spot afterwards which is normal he said???? I say go for it if you are still progressing, try to get her here before 2012!! :)

  4. I was stripped with Maddox at 38 weeks on Friday and went into labor on Sunday. I was 2 cent. She didn't get to do it with Wels bc she just came on his own at 37 weeks 5 days. I would absolutely do it again. I know a few people who go into labor within 24 hours. I was told that there is a 50/50 shot. It just speeds things up! I am not going to lie, it is very uncomfortable but doesn't last long. You can also cramp afterwards, but it is usually bc things are starting. Go for it. P.S. thanks for the reward. I never have time to actually type up the post but I really appreciate it! Call me if you have any more questions or want details :)

  6. I had mine done when I was full term and my water broke but my labor wasn't progressing. I found it very, very painful. I don't want to scare you but I wish I had known beforehand that it hurt because I wasn't prepared for the pain. My husband was going to leave the room to get my suitcase but the doctor asked him to stay and hold my hand. That should have been my first clue that it wasn't going to be fun. Lol. I didn't have a choice at the time but I wouldn't do it again unless I absolutely had to as its one of the worse parts of labor I remember. That might just have been my experience though. I've heard some people don't find it too bad. Good luck!

  7. I had mine stripped at 40 weeks and I WOULD NOT recommend it. It put me into labor, but it was very painful and Ellie was born with complications, infections, etc. I would hold on as long as possible!
